Josh Murphy says exactly why he signed new long-term Portsmouth contract

Josh Murphy has been rewarded for his fine form after signing a new contract with Portsmouth.

Muprhy hasn’t featured since the draw with Southampton, with the winger out with a minor ankle injury.

Murphy starred for Pompey last campaign, featuring in 42 games in the Championship after joining from Oxford.

The winger was named Pompey’s Player of the Season, and topped the Championship assist charts with 14.

Murphy has now committed his future to Portsmouth after it was announced he has now signed a deal until 2028.

Josh Murphy ‘settled’ at Fratton Park

Murphy remains one of Portsmouth’s most important players, evidenced by their struggles since he’s been injured.

The 30-year-old forward spoke to the club website about how it was a no-brainer for him to commit his future to the Blues.

He said: “I’m so settled down here and enjoy playing alongside the rest of the boys under this head coach, who puts a lot of faith in me to deliver.”

Murphy also praised the Pompey fans, citing them as a real motivation for him signing a new deal.

He added: “The fans are also so great – both at Fratton Park and when we’re on the road – and I love playing in front of them.

Everything just fits into place, and we’re all moving in the right direction, so that’s why I wanted to sign a new deal.”

It is a real statement of intent to get the former Newcastle man to sign such a long-term deal, and it speaks of the ambition of the team.

John Mousinho will be delighted to have tied down one of his most important players, and will be counting down the days until he’s back on the pitch.

Portsmouth desperately missing Josh Murphy

Portsmouth fans will be delighted with the news that Murphy has signed for another three years, as they have seen how the team look in his absence.

Portsmouth have been blunt in attack in the last three games and look like a completely different team going forward without Murphy.

Murphy could be in line to return to the line-up against Middlesbrough as Portsmouth look to end their bad run of form.

The 30-year-old has shown his commitment to the club and now can hopefully come back and deliver it on the pitch.
