Portsmouth star shows exactly why John Mousinho needs to start him after stellar Watford display
Portsmouth fans left Fratton Park with mixed emotions after their game against Watford on Wednesday night.
John Mousinho’s side drew 2-2 with Watford after a rollercoaster of a game, which saw Portsmouth lead, then trail, and eventually equalise late on in the second half.
A few Portsmouth players were below par against the Hornets, as John Mousinho has decisions to make for Middlesbrough on Saturday.
Colby Bishop hasn’t been at his best for Portsmouth this season, as one summer signing is proving to be one of the Championship’s signings of the season so far.

Adrian Segecic changed the game for John Mousinho despite short 27-minute cameo
Adrian Segecic has been hailed for his Portsmouth performances already this season, but Mousinho made the decision to bench the youngster against Watford.
The Australian forward came on whilst his side trailed 2-1, and once again scored a cracker as he extended his stat as the club’s top goalscorer this campaign.
- He replaced Conor Chaplin on 63 minutes
- He had two shots, two on target, and one goal
- Managed an impressive Sofascore rating of 7.6 despite his short cameo
His goal managed to prevent Pompey from three consecutive losses in the Championship, but his side have now slipped to 17th in the league.

Now winless in four, it remains an extremely confusing decision as to why Mousinho benched one of the best players he has at his disposal.

Segecic has been Portsmouth’s best player this season
Segecic came from Australia’s top flight, a market that fellow Championship clubs have experimented in recently and not had much success with.
However, the versatile forward has been a revelation for Pompey so far as he has been head and shoulders above any other players in the squad, and proved against Watford why he needs to start.
Games (starts) | Goals | Assists |
9 (7) | 3 | 1 |
Segecic is direct, a tricky and explosive forward, who doesn’t seem capable of scoring a bad goal.
Mousinho has a game-changer on his hands and needs to always start Segecic whenever he is available.
