Portsmouth fans furious at John Mousinho after what he did vs Middlesbrough

Portsmouth boss John Mousinho named an unchanged side to take on Middlesbrough at Fratton Park.

While Portsmouth could only muster a 2-2 draw against Watford in the previous game, Mousinho kept faith in the 11 players who started that game.

This decision was partly forced as Josh Murphy, who surely would have started if possible, was deemed not fit enough to start.

However, there was one decision by Mousinho that seemed to anger Pompey fans more than any other.

Portsmouth fans can’t believe that John Swift was handed another start

John Swift delivered a stinker against Watford, constantly giving the ball away, including just before both of Watford’s goals.

He also fired several ambitious shots off target.

However, Mousinho decided to start Swift in the ‘number 10’ position again, leaving Portsmouth’s top goalscorer Adrian Segecic on the subs bench.

Many Pompey fans took to social media to share their frustration about Swift starting. Several fans suggested that this should be Swift’s last chance to make an impression, while several more urged Mousinho to start Segecic ahead of him.

West Brom fans had warned Portsmouth about John Swift

When Swift signed for Portsmouth on a free transfer this summer, it seemed like a smart piece of business.

Swift has years of experience in the Championship for West Brom and Reading. He was born in Portsmouth and spent some time in the club’s youth academy. The transfer seemed like a no-brainer after West Brom opted not to renew Swift’s contract.

However, West Brom fans did warn Portsmouth fans on social media about Swift after he completed his move.

While it wouldn’t be fair to question his attitude or work rate, Swift has often been careless on the ball to the point where he’s frustrating the fans.

It was a bold move for Mousinho to persist with Swift, and he’ll be hoping that it pays off against Middlesbrough.
