Portsmouth and Norwich City state of play as Abu Kamara return wanted at Fratton Park – report

Portsmouth are interested in bringing Abu Kamara back to Fratton Park but have not yet approached Norwich City about signing the player, according to Pink Un.

The update by Samuel Seaman [6 June] reports that Norwich are yet to receive an enquiry about a permanent deal from Pompey, whose hopes of keeping the 20-year-old at Fratton were dealt a blow by Norwich’s failure to earn promotion through the play-offs.

It’s likely now that Kamara will form part of the plans of new manager Johannes Hoff Thorup following a superb season on loan with the Blues in 2023-24.

The report read: “Norwich City have not received a permanent offer for Abu Kamara from his former loan club Portsmouth.

“Reports on social media had suggested that he was the subject of a bid from Pompey which had been rejected by the Canaries, but it’s understood that no such bid has been made.

“[Kamara] took League One by storm in his season at Fratton Park, scoring 10 goals and claiming eight assists as they won League One at a canter.”

Mousinho may still try to bring Kamara back to Portsmouth

There’s no doubt Kamara will remain on the Portsmouth shopping list this summer – his impact in the recent season making this a given – but he’ll be a player filed under “ambitious”.

John Mousinho will be aware of the speculative nature of the deal with Norwich now considering Pompey a league rival as Kamara’s 18 goal contributions helped rocket the side back to the Championship.

The other three loan stars of Portsmouth’s stellar season all came from Premier League outfits, making repeat deals for them more feasible – Alex Robertson, Tino Anjorin and Myles Peart-Harris.

It’s unclear as yet how new Canaries chief Thorup will shape his squad, but he will certainly have dug deep into Kamara’s output during the campaign and the way he has taken to intense EFL football like a duck to water.

The market continues.
