Portsmouth handed tough Leeds United test for Championship return as fixtures released
Portsmouth have been handed a tough start to life back in the Championship with Leeds United first up at Elland Road on 10 August.
Their opening day fixture against the Whites was confirmed by the club’s official website (26 June).
Pompey are set to undergo their first season in the Championship for 12 years and will be vying to make a mark in the second tier after impressing as champions in League One last term..
What the rest of the Portsmouth opening fixtures are set to look like
John Mousinho’s men have been dealt quite a difficult hand with the Leeds clash and their next games don’t get much easier.
Before the end of September, John Mousinho’s men face Luton Town, Middlesbrough, Sunderland, West Brom, Burnley, and Sheffield United.
But, ultimately, these are the kind of games Pompey wanted to be involved in and there will be absolutely no fear from a side that impressed so much in the third tier last term.
After all, they have to place every side twice anyway so it might be a tough run on paper but you’re bound to get spells like that back in the Championship.

Expectations will be high at Fratton Park and in Mousinho they have one of the brightest young managers in the EFL.
Tough it might be, but Pompey and their fans will very much have a “bring it on” attitude. Let the games begin!
