Dan Bardell backs Karamoko Dembele to shine at Portsmouth if he’s signed up

Karamoko Dembele would be an excellent addition for Portsmouth if the club were to sign him this summer, says Dan Bardell.

The sports presenter and panellist says Pompey can restore Dembele’s uncertain career and give him the springboard to play his best football.

The club have been linked with a move in recent weeks for the 21-year-old [Darren Witcoop, Mirror], who spent last season on loan at Blackpool from French side Brest.

“Dembele would be a really good signing for Portsmouth,” Bardell exclusively told Pompey News.

“He’s still a young player – his career maybe hasn’t quite gone in the direction he may have expected, but an upwardly mobile club like Portsmouth would be the right kind of move for him.

“I can see him coming into their forward line and being a really good player in the Championship – these are the sorts of players they need to be looking towards.”

Portsmouth among several in hunt for Dembele

Portsmouth are joined in the race for the former Celtic hotshot by several other English clubs, who saw Dembele’s 21 goal contributions for Blackpool in League One last year.

The youngster took the division by storm in an individual sense in 2023-24, scoring eight goals and claiming 13 assists for the Seasiders.

Now Pompey boss John Mousinho is looking to bring the player to an entirely different seaside, although was coy [Andrew Moon, 16 July] when asked if there were any latest developments.

Mousinho certainly did not deny there was a chase by the club for Dembele, and the Blues will face competition from the likes of Derby County, as well as League One big-spenders Birmingham City.

The club have so far made five signings and are set to announce Australian left-back Jacob Farrell imminently.
