Elias Sorensen to fly to England on Wednesday night as Portsmouth close in on deal – report

Portsmouth are closing in on a deal for striker Elias Sorensen with the player flying to England to complete a switch, according to Farzam Abelhosseini.

The Danish football expert reported on his X account [31 July] that Sorensen is scheduled to fly from Denmark to the UK on Wednesday night to tie up the loose ends.

Abelhosseini reported on Tuesday [30 July] that a fee between £250-300k had been agreed between Pompey and Sorensen’s club Esbjerg, for whom he has scored 37 goals in 77 appearances as the club earned promotion to the Danish second tier last season.

Portsmouth secure prolific striker

Portsmouth will be excited to secure a player whose scoring record for his departed club reads at just under a goal under two matches.

Sorensen will still have a point to prove in England, having been at Newcastle United without making a first-team appearance along with a smattering of matches for Blackpool and Carlisle United.

He has however enjoyed the most recent years of his career, with his achievements running parallel to Pompey whilst in their own nation.

With Colby Bishop out for an indefinite period of time to rehabilitate from heart surgery, John Mousinho is in need of further centre-forward cover and an alternative for Kusini Yengi, who is set to start at Leeds United on 10 August, although Callum Lang and Christian Saydee can also operate through the middle.

It also shows the club are willing to part with money for players during the window, and will need to build on the Sorensen deal with further recruits.
