Portsmouth boy scores against Blues as Mousinho’s team come up short v MK Dons
Portsmouth local Tommy Leigh was the scourge of his boyhood club on Tuesday night as the Blues were held to a 1-1 pre-season draw at MK Dons.
Leigh’s goal in the second half cancelled out Josh Murphy’s early opener, with John Mousinho’s side facing Charlton Athletic this weekend before the Championship beckons at Leeds United on 10 August.
Many supporters have called on the club to invest funds into the squad to give Pompey a fighting chance of a solid first season back in the second tier, with lucrative deals so far put at bay in favour of loans and free transfers.
Portsmouth must still strengthen
The midweek draw at Stadium MK demonstrates how there is still work to be done regarding recruitment at Portsmouth.
Pompey are however aware and have promised further incomings, with sporting director Rich Hughes stating the club need another “five or six” through the door – Australian left-back Jacob Farrell has since arrived after winning two A-League titles.
Leigh has in fact enjoyed a steady career in the lower reaches of the EFL having been plucked from non-league by Accrington Stanley in 2021, and joined MK Dons earlier this summer.

Pompey themselves are in need of reinforcements in midfield with Alex Robertson the subject of interest from Cardiff City following an encouraging loan at Fratton Park last term.
A striker is also now high on the agenda following the news of Colby Bishop requiring heart surgery; Danish marksman Elias Sorensen is reportedly close to a switch to the Blues [Farzam Abelhosseini, 30 July].
In other Portsmouth news, this is what caused Eric Eisner to say the club are now “professional”.
