Portsmouth Women announce new behind-the-scenes appointment
Portsmouth Women have announced the appointment of Brooke Chaplen as head of football.
The club confirmed the behind-the-scenes addition to the women’s staff on its official website on Saturday (17 August).
Chaplen previously played for Pompey for three years and also represented Everton, Sunderland and Reading before calling time on her career.
“Having started my football career here at Pompey, it seems very fitting to be back here more than 15 years later,” Chaplen said.
“It gives me a real sense of pride leading a club that’s so close to my heart and my own football journey.
“It’s a super exciting time for women’s football and I hope we can continue to build on all the great work that’s been done so far by Jay [Sadler] and his staff.”
Portsmouth Women continue transition to full-time model
This is a hugely exciting period for the women’s side. They have finally gone full-time and a flurry of appointments is very much welcome.
Chaplen will work high up and is expected to oversee all footballing matters, from transfers to fixtures to fan engagement.
The women’s side have taken huge strides on the field of late, too, and are gearing up for Women’s Super League 2 action this coming season.
A trip to Charlton Athletic is first up and that will provide a litmus test with regards to whether Sadler’s charges are ready for what is ahead.

Before the action gets going on the field, the club will continue to get all the pieces in place off the field.
The appointment of Chaplen is yet another step towards doing that, and full credit to the club for getting truly on board with this full-time drive.
