Dan Bardell weighs up transfer risk on Portsmouth target Abu Kamara
Dan Bardell says a possible Portsmouth return for Abu Kamara would be purely down to the fee involved, after historical problems at the club.
Pompey’s interest in last season’s loanee is well recognised, given his 20 goal involvements in his first proper campaign in men’s football whilst borrowed from Norwich City.
Kamara has now handed in a transfer request at Norwich in search of a new home to play his football [Pink Un, 21 August], and sports broadcaster Bardell believes any potential return to Fratton Park would all be down to the fee involved.
“Portsmouth have had problems historically with paying transfer fees and being stung, so I think it’s all down to the fee,” Bardell exclusively told Pompey News.
“They won’t want to run into any risks – but of course, if they could get him back, it would be a great signing.
“The club want players who were there from last season, the ones who got them success.”
Portsmouth still hope for Abu Kamara deal
The consensus regarding Portsmouth and one of their star men last season is that it always been ambitious, but never impossible.
And with the ajar door being opened slightly more after Kamara’s transfer request at Carrow Road, Pompey will now have to deal with any added competition for his signature.
The 21-year-old will play at a minimum standard of the Championship this season after his superb League One displays last term quickly emerged the fact he is above that level.
Pompey have so far made 11 signings in the transfer window and are out for more as they assess the constantly changing state of the market – namesake Abdoulaye Kamara was one of this week’s recruits alongside Nicolas Schmid.
John Mousinho may be fairly stocked with wingers in his squad, but Kamara is a known quantity and will undoubtedly improve the outlook of the team at Fratton Park.
