Christian Saydee makes Portsmouth transfer plans admission as deadline day looms
Christian Saydee has admitted he just “waits to see who turns up” at training after deadline day as Portsmouth remain active in the transfer market.
Speaking to BBC Radio Solent’s Andy Moon [24 August] after his double helped take a credible point hope from Middlesbrough on Saturday, Saydee insisted he is purely focused on his football as he takes his Championship opportunity.
The 22-year-old previously had just two Championship appearances to his name prior to this season, coming with AFC Bournemouth earlier in his career.
He had also made local headlines after a cryptic social media comment to summer target Abu Kamara to attempt to lure him back to Fratton Park following last season’s excellent loan.
Asked what he knows about Pompey’s transfer business, Saydee laughed: “I haven’t got a clue.
“I just wait and see who turns up at training, and I’m just focused on being here to play football.”
Portsmouth not finished in the transfer market
As much as Saydee seems to want Kamara back at Portsmouth, the fans do too – and the in-demand Norwich City winger’s recent transfer request has added fuel to the fire.
In the meantime, Pompey have had mixed fortunes with transfer targets as is usually the case, with Alex Robertson opting to join Cardiff City but 13 signings have so far been captured.
Kamara’s namesake Abdoulaye Kamara has arrived from Borussia Dortmund as an exciting player worth a reported seven figures [The News, 20 August]; midfielder Freddie Potts and striker Harvey Blair have both joined from the Premier League as the most recent duo through the door.

More business is expected before Friday night’s deadline, as Mousinho, Rich Hughes and the Pompey backroom team aim to finalise the shaping of the squad to navigate a marathon Championship season.
Next up after the deadline is Sunderland’s visit to Fratton Park – the Black Cats top the table having won all three of their opening games, and if Pompey can avoid defeat it will have been a solid learning curve to start – and an unbeaten one before next week’s internationals.
In other Portsmouth news, the different dimension Potts can bring to Mousinho’s midfield.
