John Mousinho issues Paul Dummett update as Portsmouth in market for several more signings
Portsmouth remain in the market for several transfer targets, and John Mousinho has given the latest update on interest in Paul Dummett.
Speaking to BBC Radio Solent’s Andy Moon [28 August], the Pompey head coach outlined the club’s remaining transfer plans, with the deadline hitting at 11pm on Friday.
Dummett has been linked with following Matt Ritchie’s footsteps with a free transfer to Fratton Park after leaving Newcastle United [Sami Mokbel, 28 August] – and Mousinho has discussed the state of play.
“Paul is a good player with excellent Premier League calibre,” the boss said.
“He’s someone I thought would have possibly fit the bill, but in terms of the way we want to go about our business, maybe not the type of player we’ve looked at here at Portsmouth in the past.
“We’re always keeping an eye on the free transfer market, but nothing is moving on that particular one at the moment.”
Portsmouth still have business to do
It will be intriguing to see what happens in the final 36 hours of the transfer window from a Portsmouth point of view.
Having already signed 14 players this summer, Pompey still have names on their shopping list – although Mousinho refused to comment on Moon’s recent questions on Sydney FC centre-half Hayden Matthews, and Leicester City defender Ben Nelson.
Dummett would be an interesting recruit, given the Blues do already have two left-backs in the squad: Connor Ogilvie who has started the season well, and new signing from Australia, two-time A-League champion Jacob Farrell – currently sidelined.
There is, however, no denying the calibre he has, in the same vein as Ritchie – just without the homecoming aspect.
Pompey are also expected to trim their squad, so do not be surprised to see multiple departures on deadline day – Ben Stevenson, Tom Lowery, Anthony Scully and Gavin Whyte could all leave the South Coast this week.
