Portsmouth in line for ‘revenue uplift’ after recent Fratton Park decision
Portsmouth will have received a “revenue uplift” during the off-season after decisions at Fratton Park, according to football finance expert Dan Plumley.
The club announced on its website [20 August] that they were holding extra stadium tours for young supporters to explore the home of Pompey during the school holidays after the initial allocation sold out.
Although Plumley admits the windfall from these tours will have been “minor” in the grand scheme of things, he believes it was a “smart move” by the club to capitalise on the feel-good factor after promotion.
“It can be two things for a club like Portsmouth,” Plumley exclusively told Portsmouth News.
“There will be a revenue uplift. It will be relatively minor in the context of the overall revenue but every little helps.
“At a time of the year when the ground is not doing anything, why not look at other ways of generating money from it? I think that’s a smart move.
“I also think there’s relationship and the PR thing with supporters as well. There was a feel-good factor around the club having just got promoted back to the Championship after a long time out.
What has happened to Portsmouth at Fratton Park this season?
“There’s a buzz around the supporters, a buzz around the whole club and it’s about finding a way of leveraging some of that and using it to your advantage.
“I think that’s another smart play to generate and keep that goodwill factor going.
“So there is a financial boost, it won’t shift the dial too much, but also leveraging that goodwill and building on the positive aspects of what’s going on at the club at the minute is important.”

As Pompey looks to establish themselves in the second tier, in both a footballing and financial sense, they cannot afford to allow any chances to bolster their revenue pass them by on or off the field.
While the windfall received for these summer stadium tours may not have been huge in the grand scheme of things, it is a step in the right direction that cannot be undervalued.
