View: Freddie Potts shines for Portsmouth despite defeat v Sheffield Wednesday
Freddie Potts shone for Portsmouth despite their 2-1 Championship defeat to Sheffield Wednesday at Fratton Park on Friday (25 October).
After just one loss from four in the Championship, John Mousinho’s side have now lost back-to-back matches in England’s second flight.
Just as they appeared to be building some momentum, it all came crashing down as they were beaten by the Owls on Friday after losing 2-0 to Cardiff City at the Cardiff City Stadium on Tuesday (22 October).
Therefore, supporters at Fratton Park and Mousinho himself, who is coming under increasing pressure, will be struggling to find any positives at the moment, especially with the injuries piling up.
However, Potts proved once again against Sheffield Wednesday that he can be a rare shining light for Pompey in what is proving to be a dark season thus far.

It was hard to pick out many positives from a Portsmouth point of view as the club suffered their third home league defeat of the season.
However, Potts’ performance was a rare shining light for Mousinho and the supporters at Fratton Park.
The midfielder on loan from West Ham has become something of a regular in the Portsmouth lineup. He started his seventh consecutive match in the Championship against the Owls, and his display demonstrated why Mousinho is so reluctant to drop him.
As per Sofascore, the 21-year-old completed 86 per cent of his passes, while 100 per cent of his long balls forward were accurate.
Impressively, he also succeeded with 100 per cent of his dribble attempts (two out of two). However, it was his defensive work which really caught the eye.
Potts made four clearances, two tackles and one interception. In addition, he won six of his eight ground duels and two of his three aerial duels. Finally, he didn’t commit a single foul, while winning two free kicks for his side.
What will be frustrating for Portsmouth supporters is that one of their most promising-looking players over the past few weeks isn’t even technically their player. As a result, West Ham fans are probably more excited about Potts’ progress than Portsmouth or Mousinho.

However, he is their player for the season. Therefore, if he continues to put in performances such as the ones he has been putting in recently, he could help turn things around for Pompey and keep them in the Championship, a task which looks to be becoming increasingly more difficult.
