O’Hara slams Blackburn v Portsmouth decision as ‘Disgusting’ live on talkSPORT
Portsmouth and Blackburn Rovers fell victim to Storm Bert on Saturday as their fixture at Ewood Park was postponed, which Jamie O’Hara has branded “disgusting”.
Former Pompey man O’Hara, live on talkSPORT with Jason Cundy [23 November, 17:38], complained at how late the game was called off following a morning pitch inspection from heavy rain.
The contest in Lancashire was the only Championship match to succumb to the weather conditions, with thousands of travelling Blues fans already in or close to the area.
“Some Portsmouth fans had to turn around, I think. A Championship game getting postponed is disgusting, really,” O’Hara began.
Cundy retorted: “We understand there was rain overnight. But to call the game off at 11am when all the Pompey fans would have left between 6:30-7am, it’s terrible. It’s a 600-mile round trip. That’s terrible.”
O’Hara added: “Yeah, it’s poor.”
Portsmouth caught in the rain as Blackburn trip suffers the chop
Portsmouth do survive another weekend without dropping to the foot of the Championship table, but John Mousinho’s men would much rather have played out their contest at Ewood Park – even if injuries might give a better outlook further down the line.
Whether it’s down predominantly to Blackburn’s facilities, the officials’ late call or a combination of pointed fingers, it’s the fans who suffer most of all – many of whom were already in and around Blackburn.
It became almost a comedy show for some groups of Blues fans who rushed off elsewhere around the North West to pluck out a game to watch, when those who went across to Salford City found their match postponed even later on.
Pompey’s players will notice the fixture among a backlog later in the season, but will at least have more in their reserve for Wednesday night’s [27 November] showdown with Millwall at Fratton Park.
Pompey have already been beaten by the Lions on home soil this term, losing 1-0 in the Carabao Cup first round back in August, the first match after refurbishment work on the stadium.
