Doctor shares Mark O’Mahony injury update at Portsmouth
Portsmouth striker Mark O’Mahony appears to be out with a Grade 2 oblique injury, according to Dr Rajpal Brar.
The injury expert claims that rehab with such injuries can be tricky given their involvement with any rotation movements.
John Mousinho stated that the 19-year-old is expected to be back in the second or third week of January as he will be ruled out for up to five weeks. [BBC]
Discussing his situation exclusively with Portsmouth News, Brar, a doctor in physical therapy and a sports scientist, said: This sounds like a Grade 2 or so strain of the oblique muscles – which are one of your abdominal/core muscles that helps with rotation and anti-rotation.
“These can be tricky with rehab because of how much they’re involved with movement.
“After his pain level goes down, they will build up his strength and range of motion in the area methodically with a gradual progression to sport-specific activities.“
Mark O’Mahony was getting fleeting minutes for Portsmouth
The 19-year-old has played nine matches in the league this season and has bagged two goals for Pompey.
In November, he was mainly used as an option off the bench by Mousinho and it remains to be seen if he gets regular game time in the new year.

He has shown plenty of promise and could play a vital role in the second half of the season.
