Mousinho avoids ‘huge risk’ as one Portsmouth signing thrills Ian Darke

Portsmouth have done right by signing a new left-back in Cohen Bramall to compete with Connor Ogilvie, according to Ian Darke.

The TV commentator and Blues fan has been complimentary of Ogilvie, who has made the position his own this season with varying levels of performance.

Former Arsenal defender Bramall, 28, arrived last Friday (31 January) and made his debut the following day with a late Fratton Park cameo against Burnley.

“There was never going to be a huge splash-out, but I’m glad to see a left-back pursued to come in and provide a bit of cover in that position with Farrell out,” Darke exclusively told Pompey News.

“I do think Ogilvie has done pretty well overall after a difficult start to the season up against some of the best wingers in the division. I’d say he’s been above average in trying to bridge the gap between League One and the Championship.

“Without Bramall, it would’ve been Zak Swanson moving across to left-back and he’d be out of position – it’d have been a huge risk.”

Portsmouth transfer business is now complete

Portsmouth completed their transfer business late in the winter window, adding two further signings on Deadline Day to total eight across the 34-day market.

Bramall will compete for game time alongside Ogilvie at left-back while Jacob Farrell recuperates from another injury blow.

The Blues signed goalkeeper Ben Killip and forward Kaide Gordon in the last hours of the window, emerging for the months ahead with more flexibility in the squad.
