Mousinho ‘to hand Kaide Gordon chance v Millwall’ after Portsmouth admission

John Mousinho needs to hand Kaide Gordon a chance to prove himself when Portsmouth travel to Millwall on Saturday after a recent admission.

After back-to-back defeats ahead of the March international break, Mousinho’s side returned in style by beating Blackburn 1-0 in the Championship at Fratton Park on Saturday (29 March).

Josh Murphy scored the only goal of the match, with speculation over the winger’s Portsmouth future now emerging.

However, despite three points last time out, the chances of Portsmouth being relegated from the Championship have increased slightly after surprising events out of Mousinho’s control.

Therefore, the Championship clash with Millwall at the Den on 5 April is incredibly important, and Mousinho should look to make one change to his starting lineup which could inspire a positive result.

Mousinho makes admission about Gordon at Portsmouth

Portsmouth haven’t been given a great chance of beating Millwall on Saturday.

However, Mousinho can turn the odds in his side’s favour by making a perhaps slightly unexpected change inspired by his own recent comments.

Against Blackburn, Matt Ritchie was not at his best. Therefore, Mousinho could axe the forward as he looks to create a more exciting formula in the final third for Portsmouth.

And when it comes to replacements, Portsmouth have Gordon waiting in the wings.

Gordon has hardly had a chance at Portsmouth

The Liverpool loanee hasn’t been afforded many opportunities since he arrived at Fratton Park, with Ritchie and Murphy keeping him out of the side.

However, after Ritchie’s display against Blackburn, now is the time for Gordon to be handed a chance to prove himself, especially after Mousinho’s recent comments. While speaking to The News (3 April), the 37-year-old said, “Kaide wants to play more.

“If any of the players who aren’t playing are okay with their playing minutes, then they are in the wrong spot and the wrong club. I don’t want any player to be happy with not playing.”

Gordon will be hungry to perform for Portsmouth

Considering Gordon’s frustration behind the scenes, he will no doubt be desperate to make an impact every time he takes to the pitch to secure more playing time.

Therefore, unleashing the 20-year-old against Millwall could be a wise idea.

It would allow Gordon to prove his point while offering Ritchie a much-needed rest.
