Manchester United star reacts to Marlon Pack’s emotional Portsmouth message

Marlon Pack enjoyed a successful Championship season as he helped Portsmouth obtain second-tier survival.

The 34-year-old predominantly played in defence for John Mousinho’s men this term, but was deployed in midfield for Saturday’s 1-1 draw with Hull City in the final day of the season at Fratton Park.

Ruben Selles’ men secured their Championship status via their draw with Mousinho’s side, while Pompey achieved survival with a 1-0 win over Watford back on Easter Monday.

Portsmouth will be thrilled that they ended their second-tier campaign with a five-game unbeaten run, including victories against Watford and Norwich.

Mason Mount reacts to Pack’s emotional Portsmouth message

After Pompey drew 1-1 with Hull on Saturday, the Portsmouth captain wrote a personal message on Instagram.

He said: “A season that tested us in more ways than one, but we’ve come through it stronger and more united than ever.

“Thank you to all the fans for your unwavering support throughout the campaign. You’ve been instrumental in helping us get results and lifting the team when we needed it most.

“I’m incredibly proud of this group of players for their relentless commitment and for constantly driving standards every single day. Sharing these moments with my family is what it’s all about.”

Pack has mostly played in defence this season

Manchester United star Mason Mount, who scored in the Premier League against Brentford on Sunday, reacted by giving the post a like.

Pack has enjoyed a fantastic season with Portsmouth

The Pompey captain had not played in the Championship since representing Cardiff in the 2021/22 season, but he has successfully readjusted to life in the second tier this term.

Mousinho’s men faced a potentially daunting prospect at the start of the campaign, as they looked to achieve survival after winning the League One title in 2024.

However, Pack was able to captain the Blues to a largely successful season in which they secured their Championship survival with two games to spare.

The 34-year-old showed his attacking quality from midfield in League One in 2023/24, notching three goals and nine assists as the men from Fratton Park went on to lift the third-tier title.

But this season, Pack has demonstrated his defensive solidity, predominantly operating as a defender alongside the likes of Connor Ogilvie.

However, in Saturday’s 1-1 draw with Hull, the former Cardiff man showed that he is still able to effectively ply his trade as a midfielder and created the assist for Christian Saydee’s equaliser.
