Portsmouth Women ace acknowledged as official WSL2 announcement made

Portsmouth Women are celebrating a successful season after securing survival in the Women’s Championship in the final game of the campaign.

Jay Sadler’s side defied the odds to pull off a ‘great escape’ after a slow start to the season made them look dead certs to be relegated.

However, three wins in their final six games was enough to keep them up.

Sadler was awarded the WSL2 Manager of the Year gong at the LMA Manager Awards for his role in keeping the team up.

Now, another Pompey player has been recognised for their performance in a crucial game.

Pompey Women goalkeeper nominated for award

Goalkeeper Hannah Poulter, a loan signing from Brighton, has been nominated for the WSL2 Save of the Season award for one of her stops against Blackburn on the final day.

Poulter tipped a blistering effort onto the crossbar at Fratton Park when it seemed as if Blackburn were destined to score.

The save helped secure a clean sheet in the 4-0 victory that guaranteed Pompey Women would avoid relegation.

You can vote for Poulter’s stop to win the Save of the Season award on the WSL2 website.

Sadler has a big summer ahead to continue Pompey Women progress

Jay Sadler did a remarkable job to keep his team in the Women’s Championship in what was their first year as a professional team. His Manager of the Year award was well deserved.

However, he’ll be in for a busy summer to ensure his team stabilises itself in the second tier.

Six players have been allowed to leave the club after their contracts expired, while another six loan signings have returned to their parent clubs. Poulter is one of those loan signings who is no longer at the club.

It remains to be seen whether the 19-year-old shot stopper will be available to return to Fratton Park next season. Her arrival was one of a string of signings in January that led to the team’s dramatic improvement in form.

Either way, we can expect a summer of transition as the team prepares for another season in the Women’s Championship.
