Portsmouth sent apology by Championship rival as EFL talks held

Portsmouth have laid perfect foundations under John Mousinho, surviving any Championship relegation threat with ease in the end after promotion.

Pompey fans travelled far and wide to support their club, with a great away attendance, with Fratton Park also rocking every other week.

The South Coast side were ranked fifth overall in the Championship for travelling support, with an average turnout of 2,263 per game.

It appears as though they may have been taken advantage of, though.

Portsmouth receive apology from Blackburn Rovers

The Daily Mail has reported in its print edition (9 June, pg 57) that Blackburn have been forced to email all of their Championship rivals to apologise.

Rovers charged travelling fans more than home supporters for games at Ewood Park last season.

Those sitting in the away end could not purchase digital tickets and had to pay a £2 administration charge for paper copies.

Blackburn apologised for this “inadvertent price discrepancy” and have solved this issue for the coming season, after talks with the EFL.

Portsmouth brought 1,532 fans to Ewood Park, and Blackburn could have benefited from an extra £3,064 from away tickets due to the small fee.

Michael Eisner has overseen Portsmouth returning to the Championship.

How do Portsmouth’s ticket prices compare to Championship rivals?

Portsmouth have one of the most expensive tickets going into the next campaign, as the Eisners look to build on recent success.

The average price to see every home game at your favourite Championship club costs £412.73 for 2025/2026.

Norwich beat Portsmouth to the top spot for the dearest tickets, starting at £567.50.

Blackburn and Swansea are the cheapest in the Championship, priced at £299 and £300 respectively.

With limited funds spent on transfers in recent years, the Eisners will need to back up their pricing with added budget in the market this summer.

No matter the price, nearly 15,000 fans have renewed their tickets already, with Fratton Park set to be bouncing for games such as Southampton coming to town again.

Portsmouth will need to back up their costly admission fees with some excellent performances at home, hoping to keep Mousinho grounded for the 2025/2026 campaign.
