Portsmouth ‘get headstart on Swansea’ as six-figure Kosznovszky bid lodged

Portsmouth need some central-midfielders in this transfer window and the club has now taken a serious step toward landing one in Mark Kosznovszky.

The South Coast club relied on loan signings Freddie Potts and Isaac Hayden for most of last season, but they have both now returned to their parent clubs.

However, it’s looking like John Mousinho may have identified his number one target in this position.

Portsmouth submit bid for Hungarian midfield maestro Kosznovszky

Portsmouth’s interest in Hungarian midfielder Kosznovszky has been known for a while.

However, the Blues have now made their move, submitting a bid worth around £517,000 to his club MTK Budapest.

Football Insider reports that the Hungarian club will likely hold out for a higher bid, but Pompey fans will be excited to see the club taking affirmative action to plug the gap in their midfield.

Pompey had been linked with other centre-midfielders like Reading’s Charlie Savage and Alex Robertson of Cardiff.

However, these players were always likely to have unaffordable transfer fees tied to them. Indeed, Pompey never made an official bid for either player.

Kosznovszky, 23, is a player more likely to be in Portsmouth’s budget, although he has no experience playing in the Championship. He will reported be offered a three-year contract with wages totalling around £6,000 per week.

Pompey aiming to move fast in this transfer window

Kosznovszky has previously said that he would like to play in England, and there have been other Championship clubs sniffing around him.

Swansea were supposedly the most interested of Pompey’s rivals, but it’s good to see the Blues get a headstart in the bidding war.

Pompey have one of the lowest transfer budgets in the Championship, but in Mousinho, they have a manager who is skilled at picking out young talent. They recruited well last summer and they’re trying to get their business done early this time around.

This will give the new signings more time to bed into the team, and it prevents them from being poached by rival clubs.

Mousinho and his team are heading off to Bratislava for a training camp imminently. Their schedule of pre-season friendlies kicks off on 15 July.

Fans would love to see this deal for Kosznovszky sealed before then.
