Portsmouth and Leicester City fans unite to hit out at announcement that makes no sense

Portsmouth got their Championship campaign off to a flying start after they defeated Oxford United 1-0 at the Kassam Stadium.

Adrian Segecic netted his first Pompey goal on his Championship debut, and the Blues look to have a serious player on their hands from what we’ve seen of him so far.

John Mousinho also handed out debuts to John Swift, Florian Bianchini and Yang Min-hyeok.

This new look Pompey side will hope to keep this positive momentum going. However, an upset about one game further down the line against Leicester City has now caused anger.

Pompey and Leicester fans up in arms after fixture time is changed

Pompey fans will be hoping that Yang has settled and fully integrated himself within Mousinho’s side by the time their fixture against Leicester rolls around.

The trip to the King Power is one that all supporters in PO4 will have marked on their calendars when the fixtures were released, but an announcement regarding a change for that game was recently made.

An announcement from Pompey’s official account on X on Monday confirmed game on 18 October would be moving its kick-off time from 3pm to 7:45pm.

This is due to a Leicester Tigers rugby union match being selected for live television coverage at 3:05pm on the same day, meaning kick-off had to be postponed due to the number of people in the city centre at each venue.

Considering the football fixture was pencilled in long before the rugby game, you would assume the rugby game would be the one that got postponed, but this is not the case – therefore, this is a decision that makes no sense.

Both Leicester and Pompey fans have been critical of the announcement on social media, with some wanting the game to be postponed, whilst others were frustrated after having already booked their train tickets to see Mousinho’s men in action.

More points needed on the road for Pompey

Following their win over Oxford, Pompey supporters will hope this marks a drastic increase in the number of points they pick up on the road this season.

With Mousinho having plenty of options in attacking areas, there is more pressure for his squad to perform in every game this season, with people’s place in the starting XI being up for grabs after just one poor performance.

Supporters who travel up and down the country from the south coast will hope this will spur on their side to pick up more points on the road next season.
