John Mousinho exposes major Portsmouth issue as Josh Murphy update shared
Josh Murphy is no doubt one of Portsmouth’s best players.
The winger was vital to Pompey’s Championship survival last season despite only joining the club a year ago.
As a result, Murphy won multiple awards at Portsmouth, including the Men’s Players’ Player of the Season.
However, so far this season, the winger has been unable to play, with Murphy picking up a knock before the start of the campaign.
Now, John Mousinho has been able to give an update on the situation as the manager exposed a major issue.

John Mousinho will consider signing another winger as Murphy edges closer to full fitness
Murphy’s absence for Portsmouth has certainly given Mousinho additional issues to ponder.
Without the winger, Pompey were short in options, exposing a potential weakness in the side.
Talking to The News on 13 August, Mousinho has acknowledged this and has hinted at the possibility of the South Coast club signing another winger in the coming weeks.
- Portsmouth have made six first-team signings so far this summer
He said: “I’m not sure if we still need a winger, quite possibly, I still think we are slightly short.
“You saw when we had the injury to Murphy at the weekend (against Oxford) we were down to one recognised winger starting the game.
“Callum (Lang) did really well, but he is probably, by everybody’s admission, more of a 10. Obviously, we had Minhyeok on the bench.
“Certainly in that department, if you are looking to have any sort of successful challenge for anything, then maybe it’s good to have two players in each position.
“With Harvey’s injury at the moment, there’s a possibility we add there.”
- Muprhy missed matches against both Oxford United and Reading through injury
On top of this, Mousinho also confirmed to The News in a separate post on 13 August that Murphy’s injury was not “too serious”.
However, against Norwich City on Saturday, there’s not “too much chance” of the winger playing.

Portsmouth to go back in for Grady Diangana?
Earlier this summer, Portsmouth were linked with Grady Diangana.
The former West Brom winger is now a free agent after being released by the Baggies this summer.
Now that Mousinho has stated the need for a winger, there is a possibility that the South Coast side will make a move for Diangana.
| Competition | Appearances | Goals | Assists |
| EFL Championship | 34 | 4 | 3 |
The experienced Championship winger could prove to be a great option for Portsmouth and previously helped the Black Country club reach the Premier League.
Hopefully, if Pompey are to pursue a winger, they will consider Diangana.
