Yakubu identifies four areas for Portsmouth transfers as concern mooted
Portsmouth may have several priorities before Deadline Day, as John Mousinho needs to be backed this transfer window.
Pompey have made six signings so far this summer, with the latest addition being Yang Min-hyeok on loan from Tottenham.
The Hampshire outfit were knocked out by Reading from the Carabao Cup at Fratton Park on 12 August after losing 2-1, and fans weren’t pleased with the South Korea international’s performance.
Swansea loanee Florian Biancini’s impact hasn’t been the greatest either, and the Blues could arguably do with more options up front.

Portsmouth need several reinforcements to cope with injuries
Yakubu wants to see Pompey strengthen their striking department, the wings, midfield and defence this summer.
The ex-Nigerian striker, who established himself as a hero at Fratton Park, feels the Hampshire outfit need to reinforce multiple departments before deadline day to cope with unforeseeable injuries in the squad.
Yakubu acknowledges the Blues’ transfer activity will depend on their budget, but has seemingly urged Michael Eisner to back John Mousinho.
Speaking to Gambling.com, the former centre-forward said: “There are so many areas where they can strengthen: strikers, the wing, midfield and the defence. The goalkeeper is fine, though. It depends on the budget. If you ask any manager all over the world, they will still tell you they still want to strengthen somewhere.
“You don’t want the squad to be too big, but too many games can lead to injuries, so you don’t want to be short of players either. But I believe they still need to strengthen [their squad].”

Mousinho to push for new attacking transfer at Fratton Park
Colby Bishop missed a penalty against Norwich City in the Championship as Pompey lost 2-1 at home on 16 August.
The Hampshire outfit’s leading goalscorer from last season has had a poor start in the 2025/26 campaign, and Mousinho may be concerned about the number nine position.
Thomas Waddingham is the only other centre-forward at the English manager’s disposal next season, and the Blues should definitely look to bolster that department.
- Pompey should look to strengthen their squad in the final weeks of the window.
- A new striker should be a priority for the Hampshire outfit.
- Squad depth will be key to cope with injuries this season.
Portsmouth want St Johnstone striker Makenzie Kirk, and could cost them at least £1million in wages and transfer fees.
The Hampshire outfit had to invest a significant sum in the winter transfer window to help Mousinho avoid relegation and shouldn’t leave themselves in a similar position.
There are certainly areas Pompey need more depth in, but whether the owners will splash the cash in PO6 remains to be seen.
