‘Am I allowed to do that?’ – Robinson-Thompson makes feelings clear ahead of Southampton vs Portsmouth

Portsmouth take on Southampton in the first South Coast derby since 2019 this weekend.

Pompey’s rivalry with Southampton is massive, and fans are already counting down the days until Sunday.

Portsmouth have not beaten Southampton since 2010, but that will not deter Pompey supporters from believing they can pull off the win.

John Mousinho will be hoping that his side’s good start continues, as they face their toughest task of the season yet.

Portsmouth super fan hopes his side ‘smash Saints’

Pompey’s trip to St. Mary’s on Sunday has been heavily anticipated by fans since the fixtures were released.

Golfer Brandon Robinson-Thompson is one Portsmouth fan who can’t wait for Sunday.

The Isle of Wight native is competing at the BMW Championship in Wentworth this weekend, so he will miss the derby.

Speaking to BBC Sport ahead of his round, as shared by Dan George on X, he showed his Pompey embezzled yardage book, with the famous club badge on the front.

He said: “Am I allowed to do that? Play up Pompey, of course”

When asked if we would give up playing in the final round on Sunday to watch the game, he had the perfect response.

He said: “We haven’t had a derby like this for a while. I would do anything to be there, apart from missing this Sunday.

“Obviously, I would like to be playing this Sunday, but I would gladly finish my round on Sunday, and somebody tell me that we’ve battered Saints 4-0.”

Portsmouth searching for rare win at St. Marys

Portsmouth against Southampton is one of the fiercest rivalries in English football, with no love lost between either fanbase.

Pompey have only won once since Southampton moved from the Dell to St. Mary’s, a 4-1 thrashing in the FA Cup in 2010.

Mousinho’s side will be up against it away from home, but they have to be confident in their own ability if they are to get a positive result.
