Portsmouth Women star Annie Rolf makes ‘impatient’ admission after signing pro contract

Portsmouth Women midfielder Annie Rolf has admitted she has had to learn a lot of patience as she begins her professional career with the club.

Speaking in an internal interview published on the club’s official X page [23 August], Rolf says last year’s injury setbacks that limited her involvement in the club’s title-winning season have taught her to trust the rehabilitation process.

The 25-year-old also credited her teammates with how they got her through, as she prepares for her first professional campaign under Jay Sadler.

“I’m a very impatient person, so last season did teach me a lot of patience,” Rolf admitted.

“The girls have been my rock during that time, and to all go into out first professional season together is amazing.

“It’s a dream come true to turn professional with this club – there has been a lot of change, girls have quit their jobs and some are still working alongside – but it’s really exciting and I can’t wait.”

Portsmouth Women begin in two weeks

Following a busy pre-season schedule, it is now just over a fortnight until Portsmouth Women’s professional era is finally underway.

With a visit to The Valley to take on Charlton Athletic the first fixture up, Pompey will be looking to establish themselves in a Championship increasing in both competition and standard.

Almost every club in the second tier is now a professional operation throughout, meaning so much capital and hard work has gone into how each club will perform this season.

Luckily for a team like Pompey trying to establish themselves in their inaugural season in the division, just one team will be relegated in April to the third level of the pyramid – with one promotion spot to the WSL awarded to the league champions.

For Sadler, assistant Kim Stenning and the Blues squad, a stable campaign would signify the continuation of unbelievable progress.
