Portsmouth must stop Mousinho transfer plan as exit agreement now likely

Portsmouth have sprung into life in the transfer market.

Pompey have added Mark Kosznovszky and Luke Le Roux to their squad, with the Hungarian proving to be a coup given Sheffield United’s interest in the midfielder.

John Mousinho’s side had been quiet for most of the window to that point, having only signed John Swift and Adrian Segecic in cheap deals.

Pompey are still looking at outgoings, and Mousinho has confirmed that one member of the squad is free to leave this summer.

Mousinho wants four goalkeepers as Archer told he can leave

Jordan Archer is set to leave Portsmouth this summer.

Archer, 32, has endured a frustrating spell at Fratton Park, playing just three times across all competitions since arriving from Queen’s Park Rangers last summer.

Speaking to the News, Mousinho confirmed that Archer is free to seek a move elsewhere in search of first-team football.

Mousinho said: “Jordan is just training as normal, there’s no change there. I don’t know if there is interest (in him); it’s one of those situations we are keeping fluid with.

“If Jordan turns around and says there’s an opportunity where I can go and play football, it’s probably not something we are going to stand in his way.”

The Scotsman is subject to interest from Salford City, although the move could now be complicated due to the League Two side’s acquisition of Mark Howard.

Pompey are looking to have four goalkeepers on the books next season, with Nicolas Schmid, Ben Killip and triallist Alfie Whiteman currently at Fratton Park.

Portsmouth should focus elsewhere

Portsmouth‘s search for a fourth goalkeeper could derail their search to strengthen in other areas, when a fourth shot-stopper is not required.

Schmid, Killip and Whiteman can provide enough cover between the sticks, especially when Pompey still need to reinforce in the forward areas.

It was reported at the end of last season that Mousinho wanted to bring in another striker, as well as extra depth on the wings, so why buy a fourth goalkeeper when the only attacking signing so far has been Segecic?

Someone may need to step in and stop that plan, for now at least.
