Supercomputer predicts outcome of Portsmouth vs Sheffield Wednesday
Portsmouth return to Championship action on Saturday as they take on Sheffield Wednesday at Fratton Park.
John Mousinho’s side will be hoping to continue their good form, which has seen Pompey rise to ninth in the table.
Last time out, Portsmouth drew 0-0 with Southampton, and arguably should have won in what was an impressive derby performance.
Now, with struggling Sheffield Wednesday up next, many fans are hoping to see a victory.

Portsmouth overwhelming favourites for Sheffield Wednesday showdown
For many Pompey fans, there is plenty to look forward to on Saturday.
Fratton Park is set to see the return of Conor Chaplin, who will appear in a Portsmouth shirt for the first time at the ground since leaving in 2019.
On top of this, Mousinho could hand out numerous Portsmouth debuts, with Makenzie Kirk and Franco Umeh looking to make their presence known after their deadline day moves.
- Portsmouth are ninth in the Championship table
- Pompey have won two and drawn two of their opening five matches.
- In comparison, Sheffield Wednesday are yet to win a Championship game, losing four of their first five
In contrast, the visitors are in disarray and are heavy favourites to go down given their ownership troubles.
For the match, many Sheffield Wednesday fans are looking to boycott the Portsmouth match in protest of Dejphon Chansiri.
Now, their troubles on and off the field have been reflected in Opta’s recent prediction on 16 September.
The supercomputer believes that Pompey have a 47.1 per cent chance of coming away with a victory, compared to Wednesday’s 26.6 per cent.
The odds of a draw currently sit at 26.3 per cent.

Portsmouth’s head-to-head record against Sheffield Wednesday
Traditionally, matches between Portsmouth and Sheffield Wednesday have been close.
Overall, Pompey have beaten the Owls 27 times, compared to their 29 victories, with 17 games ending in a draw.
More recently, Portsmouth have struggled, and have not beaten Wednesday since 2002, despite playing them multiple times.
Given the current form of both teams, Mousinho will be looking to put a quick end to this run on Saturday and come away with a comfortable victory.
